The Early Years: Reclaiming Ministries Coordination
In the early 1990s, several Union Presidents in North America urged that a year-long emphasis be given to reconnecting with missing members. This was promoted in large part because these persons had children who did not attend church any longer. They also knew of thousands of other people whose family and friends were no longer coming to church either. They appointed a leader, Robert Peck, to direct this initiative from the NAD headquarters in Silver Spring, Md. Over 100,000 names of inactive members were submitted by active members. To them were sent several mailings of invitation to Welcome Home Sabbath, special programming presented in all 5,900 local congregations in November of that year.
Pastor Peck, a talented administrator, was soon asked be a conference president and so the Division invited me to coordinate this major initiative on a contract basis. During the past 14 years we have written numerous magazine articles, produced several leadership packages and dozens of video programs as well as provided live training events in all nine unions annually with appointments scheduled well into 2009 at present. At our toll free 800 phone number we give support to anyone involved in Reconnecting Ministries.
As we equip and encourage active members, it is exciting to see thousands now reconnecting with the church every year. For details go to: http://www.creativeministry.org/article.php?id=67
